The only choice we had (please correct me) was to use the U.S. currency since the U.S. have been providing us with assistance money after WWII, the only way we purchase things from other countries (i.e. Japan, Philippines, etc) was to use the U.S. currency.

It’s not a stretch of imagination to assume if any but few Palauans has ever considered let alone taken for granted the value of U.S. dollar.

You may have seen or heard the U.S. issues with possible inflations from the past, but that would never be an issue (except valuation) with Palau because we don’t even print our currency.

The one dollar bill in Palau is the same with George Washington portrait, not Ibedul (with all respect) yet.

And yes, the Global Market dictates the value of all International Monetary, and regulates to a point, such as with the IMF.

I want the president to solve the electric problem in Palau as soon as possible. I must admit that the expediency that the president has taken has to be admired by people like me whose lives and businesses are holding to the last knot on the rope’s end everyday while this problem persists. How about medical services in Palau

– how long does a paramedic need to my house in case of emergency?
– can you put something on top of the (as you assumed) 250,000,– USD the other countries can’t?

I think your article is five or ten years too early. As far as I found out, Palau has to build up surroundings for this giant market first and other countries want to get hands on this big piece of meat too. Poland is a good european example, they send their nurses and trained caretakers (really reasonable prices!!) all over Europe.

Speaking of a little Paradise: How about a luxury old people’s “home” – old people’s “land” actually. An island with complete infrastructure made for older people. Barrier free living on a Island in paradise with some of the best geriatric doctors to be found and 24/7 nursing by some specialized nurses from Poland?
